Where’s My Mom? Also known as Monkey Puzzle by the Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler duo
What does this book have in common with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? Hear me out!
This book has been read so many times in our home that we know it by heart. It’s a funny, engaging story that even tired parents can enjoy at the end of a long day.
In the big jungle, a little monkey has lost her mom. An energetic butterfly steps in to help. Using only bits of the mom’s description, she leads the little monkey to an elephant, a snake, and various other jungle animals. But none of them are her mom.
The twist?
The butterfly doesn’t realize that mom and child should look alike because, in her own experience, her children (being caterpillars) look nothing like her. Naturally, the story reaches a heartwarming ending when the little monkey provides just the right description.
And the PB&J connection?
Just like making a sandwich, this story emphasizes the importance of of clear communication. Curious how kids explain how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? Check this out!
